Munmorah NSW, March 2025

Generator Property Management (GPM) has successfully completed the removal of asbestos‑contaminated material from fire trails at Scenic Dr area, following a thorough investigation by environmental hygienists.
During a routine inspection, the Site Manager identified suspicious material and immediately initiated further investigations. These investigations confirmed the presence of legacy illegal dumping involving asbestos-containing material. In response, GPM moved quickly to address the situation and protect the surrounding community and the environment.
A tender process was launched in late 2024, attracting four suitably qualified contractors who submitted fully compliant proposals. Following a thorough assessment, a fully licensed and insured contractor was appointed and commenced remediation works in early February 2025.
How the Works Were Carried Out
The project was delivered in two phases:
- Phase 1: Consolidation of waste and fragment picking along main roads and trails
- Phase 2: Loading and removal of waste stockpiles, completed in early March
In total, approximately 70 stockpiles of demolition‑type waste containing asbestos were addressed, with more than 300 tonnes of illegally dumped material safely removed. All waste was transported to a licensed disposal facility in line with regulations.
Safety and Oversight
The contractor executed the project with a high standard of safety and efficiency. Measures included:
- Continuous air monitoring near houses
- Strict adherence to asbestos handling protocols
- Ongoing communication with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)
The EPA was fully informed throughout the process and expressed support for the clean‑up method, provided sampling confirmed no friable risk remained.
Community Impact
By removing asbestos from the fire trails, GPM has eliminated a significant hazard and ensured the area is safer for local residents and visitors. This project reflects GPM’s commitment to prompt action, transparency and environmental stewardship.
